Here's the issue I have with the whole gay thing....why can't the gay person just be a person first? Why do I have to know about the gay part? It is none of my business but gay people seem bound and determined that I should have this shoved in my face all the time. It reminds me of this girl I met who was a recovering addict. That was her entire identity. It wasn't "Kathlene, the person" it was "Kathlene the addict" as if there was no other identity that she had for herself. I really enjoyed reading most of two of David Sedaris' books. It doesn't make his book any better or worse that he's gay. In my mind, it's like me saying "Hi, I'm Dot and I'm hetero." Like anyone really cares that much...and like I want them imagining just exactly what that means which to be direct is me and my husband having sex. I would kind of rather they didn't really go there. See what I mean?

Here's the issue I have with the whole Christian thing...why can't the Christian person just be a person first? Why do I have to know about the religious part? It is none of my business but Christian people seem bound and determined that I should have this shoved in my face all the time.
Get it? Everyone has identities, and some of those are more important to them for different reasons. I know plenty of people who are gay, but their being black or a women come first. For me, it's all about being gay, whoohoo!
The fact that you feel uncomfortable is on you. Saying that I'm gay shouldn't bring up images in your mind of me having sex. Gay means that my (future) life partner will be the same gender that I am. And I'm pretty sure that he and I won't be having sex while we are shopping at Target or hanging out with friends or visiting my mom.
What I'm saying is: a gay identity does not mean sex. And that's really what you feel is being shoved in your face, right?

ABSOLUTELY! I AM ME. I AM JUST ANOTHER PERSON IN THIS BIG WIDE WORLD. I GOT SO SICK AND TIRED OF HEARING ALL THIS INTENSE STUFF, BUT UNTIL I RAN INTO SOME REAL GENUINE NAZI KIDS WHILST TEACHING IT DIDN'T REALLY HIT ME. THAT,COUPLED WITH A FEW MURDERS BECAUSE GUYS WERE GAY HAS MADE ME THINK AGAIN. WE PROBABLY NEED BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN TO GO OUT THERE AND SAY IT LOUD BECAUSE THE UGLY UNDERBELLY OF SOCIETY ISN'T GOING TO LEAVE US IN PEACE JUST TO GET ON WITH OUR LIVES.UNTIL THE DAY DAWNS WHEN SEXUALITY IS NO LONGER AN ISSUE THEN THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A NEED FOR ACTIONS TO RIGHT WRONGS.
