WCCO reports that anti-gay hate messages inculding swastikas have been reported for the seventh time since January and it's the third time in several weeks. This comes at a time when more messages promoting hate against certain groups is on the rise at the U of MN. According to the Minnesota Daily:
"The incident is another in a growing number of reported hate or “bias crimes” — those motivated by bias against another group. There were no bias crimes reported in 2003, but there were five in 2004 and the Centennial Hall graffiti marks the sixth report this year."
And I'm sure it has nothing to do with the anti-gay culture that Michele Bachmann, and her aleged election-law violators at EdWatch are trying to create in Minnesota. Or nothing to do with aleged campaign-finance violators, Focus on the Family, whose main mission on Earth is to destroy the 'homosexual agenda.' /sarcasm

Actually - and I apologize for playing this part - but I'd truly be surprised if any of the nuts who do that sort of thing here are smart enough to know who Focus on the Family or EdWatch or Michele Bachmann actually are. That's not to say there isn't an indirect connection between such people and such events, of course.

I don't think that there is a direct link between these people and groups and the people who are responsible for the graffiti. I do think that the ideas and vilification of GLBT people by FOTF and others, makes it 'more ok' to do so. When religious and political leaders make statements comparing GLBT people to satan, etc. it creates a climate that fosters this behavior.

I second Andy's view. Also just because the link between hateful theorists, commentators and lobbyists on the one hand, and vandals and hate-criminals on the other is indirect, it is no less potent and ugly.
