Gay Network Nixes Pro-Gay Ad

*I haven't been updating for 2 reasons: I quit smoking (7 days clean, yeah!), and my brain hurts from the effort. Then, I started watching Lost, and I'm addicted. I moved from one addiction to another. Sigh.*

Here's what happens when the gay community gets in bed with corporate media: we can't even have pro-gay religious advertising on a network targetted towards us. LOGO has rejected an ad from the UCC that presents their message of all-inclusive Christianity because Viacom thinks it's too political. [Advocate]

"Logo, a TV channel catering to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, is now among the growing list of networks to reject an ad in which a gay couple and other minorities are seen being "ejected" from church pews, followed by a welcoming message from UCC. A Viacom-owned network, Logo is operated by MTV, which states that its standards and practices could not accept the 30-second commercial "because of the political nature of its content," according to a sales associate's e-mail response to UCC on March 30."

Yeah, because being gay is certainly not political in America.

I'm just as glad that Time Warner Cable doesn't have LOGO included.....

Funny how Viacom/MTV's popular channel Comedy Central can run programming like South Park, the current two episodes of which concern censorship of political commentary about Islam, and not see the irony in it. And funny how South Park and The Daily Show routinely parody religion (both conservative and liberal) but the same network can't run an ad for a church that attacks nobody and offers a message of welcome...

The ejector seat ad is too controversial for Viacom's viewers, but political cartoons and news commentary (not to mention the onslaught of late night ads for 'Girls Gone Wild' videos) are not?

I could go on but I think the hypocrisy of it all will just make me throw up.

Congratulations on quitting smoking!!! I am so proud of you Andy.

Yay for not smoking! Keep at it!
