A friend called yesterday to find out what he could do in the next few days to help out. Instead of calling him (sorry Seth), I thought it would be a good idea to come up with some sort of action list.
In General
Do More Than Vote has an list of small and large ways to help out. From phone calling, letter writing, and door knocking. It's a great resource, especially if you don't want to/can't go anywhere. It also will help you get connected with the various candidates you'd like to support.
To Help the GLBT Cause
OutFront sent this message out Tuesday:
Volunteer during the 96 Hours of Action!
Equality is calling! How will you respond?
Don't Leave Equality Hanging on Election Day: https://www.outfront.org/action/register.html
This mid-term election is one of most important in many years and we need everyone to pitch in. We cannot afford to have one voter stay home on Election Day. Starting Saturday, we will be working non-stop to Get Out the Vote. Sign up for a shift or two of door knocking or phone banking, and grab a friend to volunteer with you.
We especially need more people to work out of our GLBT Action Center on Election Day. Do not miss this chance to be a part of one of our Get Out the Vote teams that will be sent into progressive neighborhoods.
Sign up for the 96 Hours of Action today!
After signing up, you will be emailed the most current schedule for the weekend and Election Day. Thank you!
Wisconsin's Anti-Gay Amendment
To help out in the St. Croix Valley:
The Action Network in the St Croix Valley regularly canvasses neighborhoods, talking with voters door-to-door about the proposed ban. The group also does other outreach activities and events. Contact hannah.johnson@fairwisconsin.com to get involved.
If you have friends in states that have an anti-gay amendment on the ballot, NGLTF has a great website set up called Phone Home 2006. It has some great resources, and is particularly important in Wisconsin and South Dakota.
