Don't Ask, Don't Tell Loses With Troops
A new poll shows that a vast majority of members of the armed forces are fine with gays and lesbians in the military:
The poll, released today, reveals that 73% of military members are comfortable with lesbians and gays. Nearly one in four (23%) service members report knowing for sure that someone in their unit is lesbian or gay, including 21% of those in combat units.
Additionally, numerous polls have shown that a large majority of the American public support repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Why do we still have this law? It's popular with the people most affected (the miltary), and fine with the general public.
Peace activists, and opponents of the War in Iraq may scoff at the idea of full inclusion based on non-violence principle, but for many people, military service is the only way to school, or a career. Generally, this law says that gays and lesbians are not full citizens, since one of the responsibilities of citizenship is to defend one's country.
Maybe we can finally get this thing repealed.

The Democrats have both houses - so it will be interesting to see if legislation to overturn Don't Ask, Don't Tell gets prioritized. Recall that Barney Frank played a huge role in starting this policy along with the slick one, Bill Clinton. It was democrat Sam Nunn who had a cow, when Clinton proposed opening the services to gays.
It will take lefty bloggers - such as yourself, Andy - to challenge democrats to do the right thing.
