Transgender Theater, Gay Singled Out, Farewell to Ann DeGroot

smallcheckmark.jpgMPR explores transgender themes in Minneapolis theater: "In Looking For Normal, currently on stage at the Minneapolis Theater Garage, Roy and Irma have been happily married for 25 years. Until Roy tries to explain to Irma that he knows inside he's a woman. As the play continues, Roy's family and friends all have their own reactions to Roy's decision to get a surgical procedure to become a woman. At first his wife Irma is horrified, but eventually she realizes she still loves the person she married, and decides to stay with him - or her. The actors who play Irma and Roy - Fred Wagner and Sally Ann Wright, are married in real life. They've been wanting to produce "Looking for Normal" for years - not because it's about being transgender, but because it's a really good love story."

150px-Jenny_McCarthy_at_E3_2006.jpgIs Alexis on the Sexes Minneapolis' gay community's Jenny McCarthy?: "The Alexis on the Sexes SINGLED OUT! event in November was so much fun that the Saloon wants us to do it every month. Starting with February 27th and leading up to Pride Week, I'll be hosting the world's funnest gay dating game on the last Wednesday of every month, from 10:30-midnight. If you'd like to be a contestant, email Gretchen at vita.mn or find me at the nearest bar and I'll get you on the roster."

smallcheckmark.jpgFrom Faith Family Fairness Alliance:

As chair of Faith Family Fairness Alliance Board of Directors I would like to extend our heart-filled thanks to Ann DeGroot and all of the staff of OutFront Minnesota in their ongoing support of Faith Family Fairness Alliance.

In 2005 when the Marriage (Anti)-Amendment was threatening our MN constitution Ann DeGroot called upon the GLBT and allied religious leaders/clergy to organize and develop a coalition of religious support to speak out against the marriage amendment and help defeat it. Out of the organizing effort Faith Family Fairness Alliance was born.

Since then, Ann DeGroot has continued to be a vital mentor and supporter of our work and has offered her wisdom and insight as we have worked to be a self-sustaining entity and partner organization with OutFront MN.

All of the staff of OutFront MN has actively supported our efforts and worked side by side to organize numerous events that has energized the allied religious community; the 2006-07 Round Tables, 2006 Religious Rally at the Capitol opposing the amendment and the Bible Self-Defense Course to name a few.

The Board and members of Faith Family Fairness Alliance, although sad to see Ann's departure for OFM, look forward to future ongoing partnership efforts with OutFront MN and the current and future leaders of our partner organization.

Blessings and prayers for Ann, Rhonda, Andy and all of the OutFront Minnesota Family!!
