New at Pride: Pride Cupcakes
Ali says, "They will be 8 tickets (ouch, I know- but I paid 10 tickets last year for a cherry lemonade and I am only making like a dollar per cupcake...before taxes...). AND they are BIG! And RAINBOW!" You can also get Iced Starbuck's coffee with whipped cream and sprinkles and a big glass of milk to wash it all down.
"Whenever I've felt depressed or seen someone else going through a hard time and not really been able to do anything practical to help, I've always just made them cupcakes," Ali says. "I think most people agree that cupcakes rekindle memories of being a child, or rather, of being carefree, which is something we rarely allow ourselves as adults. They sure taste good too!"
Her cupcakes gained in popularity when she brought them to the popular Loring Park gay drinking hole, the 19 Bar.
"I used to make "rainbow cake" with my mom as a little kid, so when Andrew (bartender at the 19) had to work on this birthday 2 years ago, it only seemed fit to make the cupcakes I brought into 19 rainbow layered. I've made them for Pride ever since, and for a few occasions in between. It was last year while I was handing them out at the parade that my friends convinced me to get a stand and sell them this year!"
I've had them and they are fantastic. Support an up-and-coming baker and stop by for Ali's cupcakes while you're in the park this weekend!
