About This

I'm going to use this page as a resource for other bloggers, visitors and users of this site, and detractors who might use legal avenues to shut down my right to free speech. If you have questions or comments for the blog or this page, please email them to me.

Legal Issues for Commenters and Guest Bloggers

Protection against defamation lawsuits. US Statutes exempt a blogger from being held liable for information posted by a commenter or guest blogger. That means I cannot be sued for anything in my comments -- but that does mean that anyone who writes libelous or defamatory comments could be sued. So, if you leave comments that constitute libel or defamation, you could be sued. I don't edit or delete comments from legitimate commenters (even anonymous commenters), but keep in mind that IP addresses are logged by my commenting system, and I can be issued a subpoena to provide that information.

Affiliations

Recently, some bloggers have been getting fired, harrassed at work, or otherwise 'outed' for their blogging. I've made no effort to keep my identity a secret. I made the decision when I began blogging to limit it to my personal computer using my own internet connection, publicly available internet connections, and wifi networks at coffeeshops, etc. My writing is therefore my own, and does not reflect the opinions of any organization, business, institution, or entity with which I am, have been, or will be affiliated. It's too bad that some who read blogs try to ruin the private lives of those who blog, just because they disagree on issues. That's why I wrote that, have blogged that way, and that's why I think every blogger should make efforts to protect themselves by avoiding using others resources, specifically if you blog on political issues.
